Adopting From Ethiopia

Adopting from Ethiopia is becoming an increasingly popular way to build your family. One of the oldest countries in Africa, Ethiopia has a rich Christian heritage and was also home to the Queen of Sheba. But recent wars have left the country impoverished, and the AIDS epidemic has decimated a large portion of the adult population. Millions of Ethiopian children have been orphaned due to poverty and disease. When you adopt one of these children, you are truly helping a child in need.

The Program is Fast and Efficient

Unlike programs from other countries, Ethiopia is actively seeking applicants to adopt children. Plus, the Ethiopian government works quickly as well. All of this means a much faster adoption process. Couples generally bring their child or children home within one year of starting the adoption process.

Costs are Less Expensive

Adopting from the country of Ethiopia is far less expensive than other countries, and is one of the most affordable programs out there. At the time this was written, the cost was approximately $12,000 to adopt one child.

A Wide Range of Children Available

Couples can adopt infants, toddlers, older children and sibling groups. Some agencies will also allow you to adopt two unrelated children.

Who Can Adopt?

While single women can adopt from this country, the Ethiopian government prefers for married couples to apply. At least one parent must be at least 25 years of age. And while there is no upper age limit, the Ethiopian government does prefer a maximum of 45 years between the adopted child and the mother.
